Sales Call Scripts for Insurance Companies in Switzerland

ZeroHype · DACH B2B Sales & Outreach

Swiss insurance is not a single market. It splits into three genuinely different buyer segments, each with its own regulator-facing logic and its own vocabulary. Retail and commercial lines (mobility, property, life, health) operate under FINMA supervision with relatively standardised policy language. Reinsurance (Swiss Re being the world's largest, plus a handful of mid-tier reinsurers, mostly in Zürich) operates globally and in English, with FINMA as the home regulator but Solvency II as the working language. And the second pillar, BVG/LPP (Berufliche Vorsorge / Loi fédérale sur la prévoyance professionnelle), is a mandatory occupational pension system with its own technical vocabulary and its own regulatory oversight via the Swiss Federal Social Insurance Office. A discovery script that conflates these segments gets nowhere useful.

All three segments run slow procurement cycles, even by Swiss standards. Internal committees at insurance companies involve Underwriting, Claims, Risk, Compliance (FINMA-aware), Legal, IT-Security, and a member of the Geschäftsleitung. A SaaS vendor walking in with US-style "we can have you live in 30 days" loses immediately. Insurance buyers want pilot terms, regulatory mapping, exit clauses, and audit trail language. Walk in without those and the call ends at minute fifteen.

Multilingual documentation is non-negotiable. A Swiss retail insurance company's customer-facing documentation is in DE, FR, IT, depending on the canton and policyholder base. Internal documentation is usually German at the headquarters and French at the Romandie sites. Reinsurers work in English globally but maintain German documentation for the Swiss regulator. A vendor who says "documentation in English only" disqualifies themselves from the retail segment and accepts a structural disadvantage in reinsurance.

The Swiss Insurance Sales Call Structure

Questions That Move Swiss Insurance Calls Forward

Ask about the buyer's regulator-facing reporting calendar. Ask about the segment (retail, reinsurance, BVG). Ask which FINMA classification applies to your service in their internal taxonomy. Ask what their last vendor onboarding cost in compliance-review time. Specific questions get specific answers and move deals.

Discovery (retail insurance, French-speaking buyer): "Three questions. You: "Alors deux implications.
Objection (audit-trail depth): Buyer asks what audit trail looks like for FINMA. Prospect: "Wenn FINMA fragt, was zeigen wir denen?" You: "Drei Antworten in einer Reihenfolge.
Objection (reinsurance segmentation, English): Buyer at a Zürich reinsurer wants to know if vendor has reinsurance vocabulary. Prospect: "Do you understand how treaty administration actually works, or is this just policy admin with extra words?" You: "Honest answer: we work at the policy-admin layer, not the treaty-modelling layer. For treaty admin specifically, you need a treaty-management system, and we are not that. Where we add value for reinsurers is at the policy-admin and exposure-aggregation layer that treaty systems feed into. So the question for you is whether your treaty system and your policy-admin system are integrated or not. If they are not, we have seen deals saved by adding the integration layer. If they are integrated, you do not need us on this call."

The pattern: segment first, regulator-aware documentation first, specific vocabulary on the first call, and audit-trail language ready. Swiss insurance rewards the vendor who demonstrates they understand the regulatory depth of the segment. It punishes the vendor who treats it as a German financial sale with a different postal code.
